We were delighted to see that one of our very favourite customers has been named number 1 in Profit Track’s rankings of Britain’s private companies with the fastest growing profits over the last three years.
Gymshark, the fitness clothing retailer tops the charts with profits up a staggering 156.2% on last year. From its humble beginnings with a £200 sewing machine in a bedroom, the brand is now global with its apparel sold in 180 countries via websites in 13 different languages. Profits rose from £1.1m in 2016 to £18.6m in 2019 giving them the number one slot.
We were delighted to work with the Gymshark team in 2018 when they moved their Headquarters from Redditch to a magnificent 42,408 sq ft office in Blythe Valley Park in Shirley. Whilst the business had the cash to invest in the multi-million refurbishment they made the prudent decision to lease the project instead. Recalling her first meeting with John Richardson, Gymshark’s CSO, Nicki clearly remembers him commenting that it made far more sense to finance the fitout and invest the cash in stock to maximise their profitability. How true that was!
It was a real privilege to work with John and the team and Oktra North on the outstanding project which was designed to attract an 18-25 year old workforce and included napping pods and a café.
Crucially Gymshark’s online model has put them in a strong position to overcome the current pandemic and avoid the devasting effect it has had on the high street. Indeed sales of its home workout gear are up. And in support of the NHS they have launched their #NHSsweatyselfie campaign encouraging fans to publish photos of themselves after exercise and will raise £175,000 for the Women’s and Children’s hospital in Birmingham.
Huge congratulations to the whole team at Gymshark – it was a honour to be part of your history and we look forward to what the future holds.
